New pasted works October 2015

Here’s a photo gallery of the new pasted works (wheatpastes, stickers, etc.) put up in the streets and alleys of Montreal during the month of October. Separate articles were just published featuring new murals and other painted works and new graffiti (part 1, part 2). If you want to see new works as soon as I photograph them, you can follow me on Instagram.

Chris Dyer repaired and modified his piece (left) in the alley between St-Laurent and Clark (click on latter link to see the earlier piece). His brother Peru143 filled the space to his right.

While Chris Dyer redid his piece seen above, Turtle Caps redid this adjacent door which, incidentally, used to feature something by Peru Dyer. Above the door is a new fat throwie by Sake and to the right an older throwie by Peru143‘s Wastoids. Also visible are tags by Omen and others.

After Turtle Caps redid the above garage door, it was consistently vandalised by taggers. A turf war ensued, with each party going over each other within a day or two. This is the third version of Turtle Caps’ contribution.

See above. This is something like Turtle Caps‘ seventh version of this door. Notice the new Waxhead piece on the left.

Waxhead in the alley between St-Laurent and Clark. Also visible in the top left corner of the photo is a wood-up by Loks; see further down this gallery for close-up.

Just like Turtle Caps above, Waxhead‘s piece was also quickly vandalised by taggers. Instead of simply repairing the old one, Waxhead came up with something new.

This boarded up perimeter of a construction site covered in ad posters was taken over by one artist or various people, presumably to make a statement against the gentrification of Pointe St-Charles. Silhouettes of walking people were painted in white over posters on the two sides of the lot, old suitcases with messages about rent on them were affixed to their ‘hands’, and heads of various politicians were cut out of recent electoral signs and put up above the fence as if they were looking down on the residents forced to leave their neighbourhood.

PSC legal graffiti wall

One of Montreal’s few legal graffiti walls is situated in the South West neighbourhood, at the St-Charles Arena on Grand Trunk street in Pointe St-Charles. It is therefore usually referred to as the PSC wall (PSC = ‘Pointe St-Charles’), the Grand Trunk wall or the Charlevoix wall because of the proximity of the Charlevoix metro station. It is not as large as the legal graffiti tunnel on de Rouen but the overall quality of the work there is generally superior because there is less petty tagging and fewer amateurs.

New graffiti October 2015

This post features photos of graffiti pieces created around Montreal during the first half of October 2015. Of course, this is just a fraction of what was produced in this city during that time – it is the best of what I was lucky enough to catch. If you want to see new works as soon as I photograph them, you can follow me on Instagram.

Silver Beach @ JDM

On the first weekend of the month 18 artists answered Skor‘s invitation and covered the whole length of the JDM wall (actually all of it with the exception of the very first ‘Peace’ at the very left) with 16 pieces in silver as well as a few characters. My photos of the works created during this unofficial event have already been published in this Bombing Science article alongside those of others. Here they are again, in the same order as they appear on the wall.

Lachine graffiti jam

The 2015 edition of the Lachine graffiti jam happened during the final weekend of August. As usual the event brought together many of this city’s finest writers to do their thing on the half-wall they had been allotted. Here’s a rundown of the new works created this year.

Trucks

A handful or two of trucks were painted during Elementality’s Hip Hop You Don’t Stop event at the end of September. Here are the ones I have been able to photograph so far and that feature graffiti.

Five Eight

To mark the creation of one of this year’s most impressive murals in Montreal, here’s a spotlight on the artist Five Eight.

Five Eight is among this city’s best muralists but he is also known for his unique style of graffiti in which he explores fonts and styles quite different from the various wildstyle roots of the artform. His art is actually often a combination of figurative and letters. As seen in the gallery below, he is often hired for commissioned work, but also shines within the less official realms of street art. For more information, check out five8art.com. To view more work than what is displayed here, including non-Montreal, non-street work and even neon, check out the latter link or Five8’s Instagram, Facebook and Flickr pages.

New murals and other painted works August 2015

Here’s a gallery of murals and other smaller painted pieces produced during August 2015. This must have been one of the busiest months in Montreal street art history, I have to split the work I photographed into separate posts presenting pasted works (wheatpastes, paste-ups, stickers, etc.) and recent graffiti. If you wish to see new work as soon as I photograph it, you can follow me on Instagram.
