There has been so much new work since my last ‘new works’ installment that I must break this one into differents posts. The gallery below only features murals, smaller painted pieces and stencil pieces. Coming up very soon is a post presenting new stickers and small paste-ups. Already published are posts about the 2015 edition of Mural Festival, new pasted works and new graffiti.

G.Knight (formerly known as Graffiti Knight) has been stencilling his shortened moniker on the walls, streets and sidewalks of the Plateau and Mile End. Three examples are shown below, but there are many others to be found.

Tava’s Buck 15 Espresso tunnel

Tava was commissionned to paint the walls of the tunnel next to Buck 15 Espresso in Griffintown. The tunnel is quite narrow, which makes it rather difficult to take good photos.

Tava a reçu comme commande la décoration des murs du tunnel à coté du café Buck 15 Espresso dans Griffintown. Le tunnel en question est plutôt étroit, ce qui rend difficile la prise de bonnes photos.

Mural Festival 2015

This article features the new murals created during the 2015 edition of Mural Festival as well as the other temporary art found on the site (St-Laurent between Sherbrooke and Mont-Royal) while it was closed to traffic. Missing is the mural planned by XRAY which was cancelled because of miscommunications with the owner of the wall originally assigned to the artist.

Only four earlier Festival murals have been replaced with new ones this year. These are the sponsored one by Kashink and the 123Klan mural from the 2014 edition, as well as the Omen and Caron murals from the 2013 edition. Last year’s RR & DB wheatpaste mural has since been destroyed by rain and winter; the space was therefore already ready for something new. The Cyrcle mural from 2014 is also gone, that wall had to be rebuilt and it was not yet ready to be covered with a new mural.

Cet article présente les nouvelles murales créées dans le cadre de l’édition 2015 du Festival Mural ainsi que les oeuvres temporaires trouvées sur le site (St-Laurent entre Sherbrooke et Mont-Royal). Il ne manque que la murale de XRAY qui n’a pas été produite suite à une confusion concernant la disponibilité du mur réservé pour cet artiste.

Seulement 4 murales ont été remplacées par de nouvelles cette année: celles de Kashink et du 123 Klan produites dans le cadre de l’édition 2014 ainsi que celles d’Omen et de Caron datant de l’édition 2013. La murale avec collage par RR & DB datant de l’an dernier était déjà détruite par la pluie et l’hiver. Cet espace était donc déjà disponible pour recevoir une nouvelle oeuvre. La murale de Cyrcle produite l’année dernière est aussi disparue, mais elle n’a pas été remplacée, le mur étant en cours de réparation.

Vous pourriez être intéressé par ce tour pédestre que j’ai créé: débutant à la ‘place des murales’ derrière les bureaux de LNDMRK, ensuite vers le nord le long de St-Dominique et le côté est de St-Laurent, puis vers le sud le long de Clark et le côté ouest de St-Laurent.

Mathieu Connery sidewalk pieces

Mathieu Connery has been painting his abstract pieces on the sidewalks of St-Laurent since the first edition of Mural Festival. This year he came up with two new pieces and restored a few of the ones from last year which had faded. Then, over the weeks following the end of the festival, he transformed a few of the fading 2014 creations.

Information boards / panneaux info

A number of (mostly) local artists covered the backs of the festival’s information boards with their art. These information boards were found interspersed at regular intervals between Mont-Royal and Sherbrooke.

This image gallery features a collection of graffiti (and a few figurative) pieces found on the sides and/or backs of trucks spotted in Montreal. Most of the work shown here was commissioned. I apologize for the quality of some of the images: the trucks are sometimes filthy and in some cases it was difficult to get a good angle between parked vehicles.

Astro is another one of our street artists that history should remember. After making his name as one of Montreal’s top graffiti artists, he was roughly arrested and consequently now concentrates on legal street pieces and studio work. He is a member of DUC crew (with Pask, Koal, Sino, Stare etc.) as well as the French crew EB (which also includes Otek from Montreal). He has also been part of the now defunct La Paria crew with Zema, Frank Lam, etc. For more info on the artist or for photos of his studio work or his street work outside Montreal, see his personal website as well as his Instagram and Behance pages.

Astro est un autre de nos artiste de rue que l’histoire ne devrait pas oublier. Après s’être illustré comme un des tops graffeurs à Montréal, il a été arrêté (une ‘arrestation musclée’ pour utiliser les termes de l’artiste) et en conséquence il s’en tient maintenant aux oeuvres légales et au travail en studio. Il fait partie du DUC crew (avec Pask, Koal, Sino, Stare, etc) ainsi que du crew français EB (qui inclut aussi Otek de Montréal). Here’s a rundown of the best new graffiti pieces created in Montreal since my last New Works post in mid-April. Of course this list is not exhaustive, most of the work done on legal graffiti walls unfortunately rarely survives more than a few days now and it’s easy to miss out on some new pieces between visits.
